This course is 1 hr extension of the Pet portraiture class taken at a later date if your looking to refine your existing portrait further with some more guidance.
Location: Your place or mine (Parkallen)!
Do - bring clothes/aprons you don't mind getting paint on.
Don’t - bring other paints, brushes or canvases
For this course I have just what you will need and they are perfect for the time and skill demands of beginners but feel free to experiment on your own materials later!
Do-be nice to yourself
Ill show you how simple concepts can bring any novice surprisingly far toward a painting of their pet. These concepts use unique shortcuts, using skills you already have. This method isn’t meant for all painting but gives you a framework to build your own discoveries on. The true struggles is suddenly using a taxing amount of fine motor skills so be forgiving to your learning hands and we will get as far as you can. You will undoubtedly learn much along the way and if not finished to your liking you will at-least gain a strong basis to develop later.
Do - bring your ideal pet photo for reference
Anything from a 5"x7" to a 8"x11" sheet. Too big can be cumbersome and a little smaller actually helps you see the important shapes better.
What is an ideal Pet Portrait Photo?
Some photos are just too special to avoid but if unsure grab an image covered by about 3/4 of your pet. Ideally facing forward and doing something true to their personality. If you can’t crop it we can cover up what areas we won’t paint. If delicate or precious place in a clear plastic bag while painting.
Grab your brushes and let's get creative together!

What should I expect inside the door?
Stairs will lead you up a little to the main level, then you will go through another set of double doors to the main hall and more stairs! Signs will guide you up to the 2nd level where the paint event is held.
Are there washrooms?
Yes, there are some I can guide you toward.
Can I ask for help or guidance?
Please do if I explained something and it didn't sink in. That is half the fun, learning to approach painting and learning you own unique way. Thinking of other ways to teach is good for me and rewarding.
Can I do my own thing if I feel like it?
Please do! I love to see how others take the basics if inspired. The final steps are meant to leave some details in your wonderful hands regardless. No pressure either way.
